Here he goes again, banging on about music! I can’t help it, its the biggest part of my life. I literally have a permanent soundtrack in my head no matter where I am or what I’m doing. It is the best form of escape for my mind.

So this is just a quick blog about three of my current favourite albums.

First up is Sixx am. Its Nikki Sixx’s band. The album I’m addicted to is “the herion diaries” soundtrack. It accompanies the book of the same name, which is a raw account of his addiction to herion. Now I’m a big fan of Nikki Sixx (I have Sixx tattooed on my fingers). The band is a side project of Nikki with DJ Ashba on guitar, James Michael lead vocals and Dustin Steinke who tours with them playing drums. I strongly recommend both listening to the album and reading the book. It portrays his addiction and the battle he faces to over come it extremely well. The opening lines of “Xmas in hell”….

“December twenty-fifth, nineteen eighty-six
Van Nuys.Merry Christmas. That’s what people say at Christmas, right?
Except normally they have someone to say it to.
They have friends and family,
And they haven’t been crouched naked under a Christmas tree
with a needle in their arm like an insane person in a mansion in Van Nuys.
They’re not out of their minds, they’re not writing in a diary,
And they’re definitely not watching their holiday spirit coagulate in a spoon.
I didn’t speak to a single person today.
I thought why should I ruin their fucking Christmas.I’ve started a new diary and this time I have a few new reasons.
One, I have no friends left.
Two, so I can read back and remember what I did the day before.
And three, so if I die, at least I leave a nice little suicide note of my life.”

For me there isn’t a bad song on the album.

Next up is W.A.S.P. I’ll let you make up your minds as to what it stands for. There are a few variations of possible meanings on the net. The album in particular that I love is “the crimson idol”. It tells the story of the rise and fall of a fictional rock star named Jonathan Steel. My favourite song on there is ” the idol”. Its beautiful.

“Kiss away the pain and leave me lonely
I’ll never know if love’s a lie
Ooh – being crazy in paradise is easy
Can you see the prisoners in my eyes
Where is the love to shelter me
Give me love, love set me free
Where is the love, to shelter me
Only love, love set me free
Set me free”

Finally (for now). We have one of my all time favourite bands…Avenged Sevenfold. Now, I love all of their albums, but my all time favourite is “Nightmare” both the album and the single of the same name. Its awesome.

“You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
Ooh, it’s your fuckin’ nightmare Can’t wake up in a sweat
‘Cause it ain’t over yet
Still dancing with your demons
Victim of your own creation
Beyond the will to fight
Where all that’s wrong is right
Where hate don’t need a reason
Loathing self-assassination”

The video is filmed in a mental institution. How ironic.
